Suggested Proposal Topics Since the Virtual Conference was announced

Strands and Promotional Descriptors


  • Emergent Topics: Given all that is going on in the world, we are looking for folks who have experience with the following topics and are willing to lead conversations with their fellow teachers:
  • Teaching Anti-racism curriculum or using authentic Anti-racism materials with your students. Resources would be important to share.
  • Trauma-Informed Teaching; if you are an educator or counselor who is creating a trauma-informed curriculum or s using authentic trauma-informed materials during distance learning.
  • Fake news and the election to teach information literacy and skills for critical thinking and understanding our election process.
  • Correct Ergonomics for distance learning at a computer/laptop/ipad; if you are a physical therapist or Occupational therapist who might deliver a session on how to set up safe home working spaces during extended computer use. Include strategies for both teachers and students.

Not a strand but a format: Panel Discussions

Gather 3-4 people who can speak on their experience with a specific topic. Do you know of a few educators who would be willing to share information in a round table? Topics might include:

  • Reflections on successes and failures during emergency learning.
  • e-Sports in Virtual Learning
  • 3-D Printers (and hand-sewn masks) as part of producing PPE for local healthcare providers

Engagement Technologies for Virtual Learning:

PearDeck, FlipGrid, ThingLink, Slack, SeeSaw etc. All levels are needed from beginner to superuser! Are you effectively using engagement technologies as part of your instruction during distance learning? Please consider creating a session to share what is working and what the possible pitfalls are.

Assessment of Learning and Assigning Grades in Virtual Learning:

Are you an educator who can facilitate conversation about assessing learning as being different than assigning grades in online learning? Please lead this conversation with your colleagues.


Coding:

If you are an educator teaching coding through distance learning, please consider offering a session that includes the resources and activities you are using with your learners. If you work with girls and young women on coding, please consider offering a session unique for this.

Project-Based Learning:

Are you an educator who is currently using or have used PBL in your instruction? Please consider sharing your lessons learned.

Whimsy: The sky's the limit! Please share whimsical resources and activities that you’ve used as part of distance learning content? Please share resources and talk about the benefits!
